Complex treatment, explained before it happens
The procedures Dr. Weishoff performs — gum surgery, bone grafting, implant placement — are the ones patients arrive most worried about. His answer to that has been consistent across more than twenty years of practice: spend the time. He walks through each stage of a treatment plan before anything begins, so that the patient in the chair knows what is happening and why. Patients who came in braced for the worst tend to say afterwards that the explaining is what they remember.
Training
Dr. Weishoff studied microbiology and cell science at the University of Florida before earning his DMD at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, one of the oldest dental schools in the country. At Penn he received the George Bronkovic Award for Service and Dedication.
He then completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine, and in 2009 earned a Master of Biomedical Sciences and his Specialty Certificate in Periodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore. A year later he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology — board certification in the specialty, which is a voluntary step beyond the licence required to practise it.

Because he treats patients in this office, an implant case does not mean being handed a referral to a surgeon across town who has never seen your chart.

Questions patients ask
What does a periodontist do?
A periodontist is a dental specialist in the gums and the bone that holds teeth in place, and in placing dental implants. It takes roughly three years of training beyond dental school. Patients usually see one for gum disease, gum recession, bone grafting, or implants.
Do I need a referral to see Dr. Weishoff?
No. He treats patients in our Royal Palm Beach office, so you can book directly with him. If you are already our patient, your general dentist simply brings him in and he works from the records and x-rays we already have.
Is Dr. Weishoff board-certified?
Yes. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 2010, a year after completing his specialty certificate in periodontics at the University of Maryland. Board certification is voluntary and goes beyond the licence required to practise the specialty.
I was told I do not have enough bone for an implant. Is that final?
Often not. Bone grafting rebuilds the ridge so that an implant can be placed afterwards, and Dr. Weishoff performs grafting here rather than referring it out. Whether it applies in your case depends on an examination and 3D imaging, both part of the free implant consultation.
