What a preceptorship is

A preceptorship is a structured, extended period of clinical training and observation under an established practitioner — closest in shape to a fellowship in medicine. It typically runs several months to a year. Dr. Kapil holds his DMD and is spending that time here, working alongside our doctors rather than running his own schedule.

In practical terms: he is not taking his own patients while the preceptorship runs, which is why there is no booking link on this page. You may well meet him during a visit, assisting or observing as part of your care team, and he will be introduced as such.

Training

Dr. Kapil earned his DMD at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine in Florida. His preceptorship covers the everyday general dentistry that makes up most of the work here — exams, cleanings, fillings, crowns, and the preventive care that keeps small problems from becoming the kind that need a specialist.

The unhurried one

The thing people notice about Dr. Kapil is that he is not in a rush. He explains what is about to happen before it happens, and he is easy to talk to. For anyone who has spent an appointment gripping the armrests, that is not a small quality — and it is the part of the job that cannot really be taught in a lecture hall, which is rather the point of training this way.

Outside the office

He cheers for the Gators and the Sharks, is a committed foodie who will try any cuisine once, travels whenever he can, and is a genuine stand-up comedy and music fan. Dentistry, though, is the thing he talks about with the most enthusiasm.
